Bierstadt West Slopes - Kylee‘s First Fourteener!

On Monday, August 3 we headed to Guanella Pass from Silverthorne to hike up Mt. Bierstadt. The group included the Smith's {Jerry, Joy, Reilly (13) and Kylee (9)} from Sugar Land, TX plus my niece Whitney and her friend Christina from Wichita, KS. This was to be Kylee and Christina's first Fourteener. We were very conscious of the road closures and were on the trail by 7:30 AM.

Kylee was hugging the trail marker, understanding well her final destination.

Some friends from Houston we met at the trailhead, Samantha, Natasha, Caryn and Scott.

After about 30 minutes on the summit we headed back down and were at the car by 11:30 AM, in time to drive back down Guanella Road prior to the road closure.

The family that climbs together...     08/04/2009 12:38
Thanks for the post. Congratulations to Kylee on her first and Reilly on her third 14er. You all make this Easterner with my Appalachian hills jealous.

My son and I did this climb as his first 14er earlier in the summer and have since done several more. What a great family time! Great job Kylee!! That is great climbing for a young kid! Nice job Reilly. Well done.
