 Shavano/Tab "Grind"

Climbed both on 8/1/09 from Shavano/Tab Trailhead. Follow the route descriptions from and Roach's book they are both accurate.

The route is pretty straightforward in the lower section up to the saddle. The area around the stream crossing is a little confusing as there are a lot of different trails and the main one is not well marked. I can't be of more help here, as I went two different ways ascending and descending.

Same at the summit of Shavano - lots of different routes, but there are cairns to follow.

The traverse from Shavano to Tab is a lot of rock hopping with lots of elevation loss/gain.

Watch out for herds of cows at the trailhead!

This was NOT one of my favorite climbs, it is a GRIND from start to finish and not very scenic in my opinion.

This was our time frame for the hike, moving pretty quick.

5:00 am - Start
8:00am - summit of Shavano
9:20 am - summit of Tab
1/2 hour on summt of Tab
9:50 am - leave summit of Tab
10:42 am - back to Shavano summit
1:09 pm - finish
