 Mt. of the Un-Holy Crowds

Unfortunately no pics- the memory card in the camera was not working right, which we only discovered as we reached the trail head. Even though pictureless, I wanted to report on the un-holy amount of people that were out and about on the Mt. of the Holy Cross on Saturday.

Wife and I Rolled into the trail head parking lot at around 5:30pm. Lot was already full and people were parked on Tigiwon Rd. Luckily we snagged an overlooked spot about 4 cars in from the TH. We hiked into East Cross Creek and set up camp around 8pm. Like other TR‘s said, the mosquitos were killer, so we got in the tent and fell asleep at around 9pm. Woke up at 3:30am and was on the trail by 3:50am, summitted at 6:33am, left the summit right around 7am. First ones of the day... Best. Decision. Ever. We counted 22 groups on our way down the mountain, many 4-5 hikers deep. Broke down camp at the Creek and started the hike back out to the TH at around 10am and got back to our truck at 11:30ish.

On the way out we counted the cars in the parking lot... 75 cars. We couldn‘t help but laugh and resolved that we will be on the trail no later than 4am for the rest of our 14er days.

I know its nothing compared to the ridiculousness of Bierstadt, but a stark contrast to our Blanca/Ellingwood/Lindsey trip over July 4th.

Hope this helps someone plan a great and successful hike of this mountain.

2 trips down, 3 to go this season and we‘re 2 out of 4 on our attemps. Still up: Longs, Huron, Windom, Sunlight, and Eolus.
