 Lindsey Standard Route

My brother and I got to the trailhead at midnight on Thursday the 2nd. I forgot how far of a drive from Denver this is. My mistake was thinking once you got to Gardner that it was only about 20 more minutes to the trailhead but it is still a long ways on dirt roads.

We had seen postings about people taking off shoes to cross the main stream just past the trail junction of Lilly Lake/Lindsey, this is a mistake. There is a good log crossing prior to the main trail crossing that some other kind climbers told us about when we were hiking back down. To find it go directly towards the stream (Left) at the junction of the Lilly Lake/Lindsey trails. You will see a few logs about 10 to 20 yards upstream from that junction. Cross here (2 small crossings) and then hike back upstream (faint muddy trail) for about 100 yards to regain the main trail. This will save time with taking off shoes and doing an extremely cold wet stream crossing in bare feet. No other crossings found upstream from main trail.

The rest of the trip was by the route described. We hit the snow up the last gully but enough steps have been kicked in to it to make it a safe direct travel up the snow rather than clinging to the rocks on the side. I went directly up the snow gully and it saved me a good 10 to 15 minutes of scrambling on the rocks. My brother had an ice axe which was a good call for this gully. I wish I would have brought mine just for the 3 mandatory snow crossings. Also to save time going down the main gully. I ended up scrambling back down the rocks to prevent a fall.

Weather was cloudy and a little cold on top but now thunder heads or lightning so it made for a great trip.

Glad to get in my 99th 14er and hopefully my 100th tommorrow on Bierstadt.
