Glad to see you guys made it to the summit! I really enjoy that route. It‘s definitely a nice alternative to the longer way up the standard route. I scared that marmot right as I was leaving the summit. I was probably the reason he was annoyed...

And nice write up! Turned out to be a lot more interesting of a route than I expected, especially at the ridge. I think I know why people do the traverse from Harvard to Columbia usually...gaining Harvard from that direction would be rough after already summiting Columbia!

what was the status of the lake, was it frozen

I wouldn‘t say that Bear Lake was entirely frozen, but it was mostly covered in ice. The lake is in the upper right hand corner of the image with the caption ”Looking down into Horn Fork Basin from the side of the summit ridge.” Yeah, pretty icy.
