 good day.

Me and my wife slept in the xterra at the trailhead Tuesday night and started up the trail at 5:30 Wednesday morning. We had a nice view of the sunrise once we hit the switchbacks in thee trees.
After nearly an hour we arrived at the little stream crossing.
After crossing the stream and more switchbacks we neared the old cabin. Here is a look back down where you come from.
A few steps past the cabin we got our first view of Belford and more switchbacks.
Heading into Missouri gulch we soon came to the elkhead pass trail junction.
The trail up the grassy shoulder is really nice and the switchbacks felt pretty mellow. This is what the trail typically looks like until you reach the more rocky terrain slightly higher.
Then it looks like this.
After getting to the flat area near the top its a short easy walk to the small summit block.
Me and my wife Julie on top.
The weather was amazing and we had zero wind.
Here is the view dropping off to traverse to Oxford which seemed really far away, but the hike over went pretty quick.
The wind slightly picked up and it was a little cooler on Oxford.
Looking back to Belford.
Me and Julie on Oxford.
On the way back we took elkhead pass down. The trail was a little hard to spot off the top of the ridge, but is easily seen in the distance. We just walked down and left until we found it. There was some snowfields to cross but they were fairly solid.
Also the stream crossings were running a bit high through Missouri gulch so waterproof boots were a plus.
And with that we finished off Chaffee county 390. No more trips up that washboard for a little while!

Is so nice compared to the switchbacks up Belford, plus you get a little more solitude. Nicely done.

How long was the hike down Oxford with Elkhead Pass compared to going back up Belford and down that?

Great description. We are going Friday so thanks in advance!
