 Elbert NE Ridge Route

Great day for a climb out by Leadville. Pat, my brother Carter, my nephew Matt and I took a stab at Elbert. Matt was visiting from Indiana for his first time ever so what better way to say welcome to Colorado than to put him on top of the state.

Carter and Matt were out early from Boulder and secured a great camping site right near the TH. Lots of camping out along halfmoon creek road. The road itself has been recently fixed up and you could probably do 80mph in a low-rider all the way to the TH. It was in that nice of shape. Trail was in good shape but busy. Little real snow until the top and the only thing you really need is poles if you have them.

We set off from the TH at 5:30am. It is a sharp climb out of the TH up to treeline. Pat hitting treeline

Nice report with some cool shots of the clouds hanging over the Leadville area. Elbert was my first 14er 2 years ago, your report really reminds how much work it was but also how rewarding it is to get to that summit.
