I haven‘t seen a recent TR from the Fridge so I thought I‘d post one for current conditions.
Doug and I packed in from the Winfield 4WD TH Thursday night to ~11,400ft. Finding the Three Apostle Trail made this pack a breeze. Contrary to Roach's map this trail is on the west (climbers right) of the creek. After leaving the Lake Ann trail look for arrows carved into a tree marking the split for the 3A trail. There's a bit of snow and deadfall, but slowshoes aren't required.
We left our camp at about 5:15AM in the morning. By 6AM we were cramponing up the entry couloir. Crusty/punchy snow made our approach to the Fridge slower than we had hoped. When sun hit the rock face above the coulor we observed some minor ice fall, but we never saw much rock fall (just a few pebbles).
After topping out under a monster cornice we scrambled up the snowy class 3 ridge to the summit.
We descended from the summit via the northeast ridge which proved to be fairly crappy. By the time we reached the left branch of the Fridge we decided we would rather down climb steepish snow than loose, snow covered class 3 rock. In hindsight, reversing our ascent track probably would have been faster.

Wow, lots of snow up there still. When I did it years ago, in July I think, it had a short section of pure alpine ice. Looks like the snow will last well into the summer. Good job guys on a sporty climb!

Looks like a fair bit of snow fell between this TR and when my buddy and I skied it on may 31st. Great route that was in great condition when we did it.
We just did the Fridge the weekend prior, the descent was pretty nasty for us too with the marginally snow covered 3rd/4th class rock. We actually descended the left branch of the Fridge too, it just seemed safer, quicker and more enjoyable than staying on that ridge. The Fridge was great though!
i wonder if you happened to get a look at the snow conditions (or even a pic) on the peaks along the west side of the drainage-virginia, granite and up into silver basin?
we skied virginia about this time last year and at the time up silver basin looked inviting...curious if there is snow low enough to warrant another adventure.
it looks pretty snowy up there-i‘m guessing that is harrison flat, just south of granite? was there much snow down at the trailhead level? thanks again...
