 Cloudy day on Mt. Princeton

This is my 1st TR and I am a little embarrassed to post it but I have been using this site for 2years now and thought I might need to finally contribute. I Started from the radio towers around 630, and the road from the radio towers was pretty dry until the 3rd switchback which was impassable by car, but was all very easily avoided. The actual entrance to the trail from the road was covered with snow. (For better beta the previous Princeton TR has it) Someone had put up their tent at the entrance to the trail which I thought was rather peculiar but it was greatly appreciated. After the initial 100ft of snow covering the entrance to the trail it is pretty dry. (These were taken on the way down)

This was the 1st of 3 snow fields that I crossed, by the way they were very short. I used an ice axe and gaitors but this was all the winter gear I used.

Conditions were pretty soupy early on and couldn't really see far enough to take decent pictures.

After making the saddle connecting Tigger and Princeton the sun started to finally make an appearance, and this was where I got my first look at Mt. Princeton

Once you hit the saddle the snow becomes a non issue, and conditions were very pleasant.

I made the summit at 1030 and pretty much had it to myself as 2 hikers were leaving. By the way thanks for taking my summit photo for me. Tigger peak looked pretty cool.

ImageI made the summit at 1030 and it was awesome! I enjoyed the low cloud ceiling.

This was an awesome 1st hike of the season for me, and it was great to meet quite a few 14ers members. To the 3 guys I ended up hiking with - the 2 Mikes and Paul- I enjoyed your company and I hope Mike made it up.

Nice job! It looks like things are still melting like crazy up there. What was the temperature and wind like?

great day on Princeton...     05/17/2009 16:21
It was great hiking up with you, Jason, and I agree - it was an awesome start to the season! The other Mike did end up summiting as well.

wasn‘t too bad actually and the temp was around lower to mid 40‘s on the summit and a lot warmer near the road. Hey Mike maybe we‘ll have to get another hike in together sometime!

I agree... the low cloud ceiling sure makes for a nice picture with the mountains rising above. Congrats.

are always a little un-nerving to put up. But way to go and good job. I made it to Tigger in Feb. and have wanted to go back and get Princeton. So, heading up tomorrow. It's good to read other trip reports and look at photos prior to heading out.
So, good job and thanks for you report.
