 Successfully Skiing Sherman, 1/17/09

Tried to ski Sherman last year and ran into some equipment failures.

It's funny to realize how much I've matured in a year post-college. Life is no longer about staying up late drinking PBRs the night before a hike, taking pulls of Jim Beam at the trailhead and lugging an extra 36 ounces of swill up a mountain. Life is now about the post-climb micro brews back at the car!

This report is an old one but I figure better late than never.

Carter, Robby and I drove west with a vague plan. After exploring a few other options, we found our way on the road towards the familiar Horseshoe.

Although I‘m a skier, I don‘t have any ski touring equipment. So I snowshoed and boarded while Robby and Matt skied. Snowboard boots are really comfortable.

We got a late start but weather was perfect and before we knew it, we were at the summit.

Sherman is the first 14er Matt has skied (and all these pics are stolen off his camera, although I took quite a few)

This summit was especially nice for Robby and I since we got shut down on last year‘s attempt.

You can see my sissy, snowboard boot tracks down this steep, rocked lined section to my cameraman position. Like I said, I‘m a skier.

Little bit of camera tilt but you get the idea.

Steep, rocky, narrow, icy choke. This was the crux of the ski.

The skiers made it out no problem. I had a couple issues with the snowboard, harder to carry speed on flats.

And revenge beers back at the car! Great day with great friends.
