Really Nice (really really nice)!     2011-02-04 17:22:15
I grew up in LA, and hiked up there in the summer a few times. Often wondered about skiing it, but usually when the snow was good enough, Pajarito Mt. was usually open. Thanks for showing us the option.

For the NMers     2010-11-30 10:28:46
Chicoma definitely holds a strong draw. I'd like to head back up there and climb Polvadera as well, which I hear can be quite the map/navigation exercise. Give me a shout if you guys are ever interested. For people coming from far away, Chicoma and Polvadera make for a good two-banger.

Just last Saturday, you were musing about a Chicoma ski.
I was trolling around Lists of John tonight and saw you‘d made the summit, and you‘ve already posted a trip report? Nice job.
Congrats on both the summit and the successful extrication of your car!
I guess I‘ll hold off on this peak until summer...

Cool!     2009-04-23 10:12:44
Growing up in Los Alamos, I loved going up 39-mile road. Worked for a short stint doing geology field mapping on Polvadera and Chicoma Peaks. Very cool to see the Jemez Mountains in a TR.

The more     2009-04-24 09:51:57
I see what del_sur and you guys show about the gems of NM, the more I‘m intrigued.

I know exactly what its like to dig an Xterra out of deepening snow for hours on end, it sucks and you always have that lingering thought in the back of your head that you might need to resort to a costly tow and a disgruntled tow truck driver. Glad you made it out and had a warm bed that night.
