 Southeast Slopes

I was sitting in the basin below Torreys, pulling my boots off to get the blood back in my feet, and watching the skier I met this morning on the summit descend the Dead Dog. The conditions were safe, but that face heats up fast, and I worried about the climber I met on the apron. There was still plenty of time on Greys. The skier had told me it was bulletproof. The corn was not yet ripe. I took the low rib to the left this time.

From there, I skinned directly up snow-covered scree to the east ridge, rather than taking the saddle again, as a couple of other groups seemed to be doing.

I watched the climber in on Torreys east face top out. The snow dried up on the east ridge of Greys, so I defaulted to the standard route for a summit descent. I was led several yards to the left before finding a way back to the central face. Although bad edequit not to stack tracks in such a high use area, it felt good to make big damn erratic turns. At least no one said anything in the basin. A telemarker was just exiting the Dead Dog. So late! The groups left the basin, traversing to treeline. I walked over to the rise, and rode down into the long bottom of the lower basin, under The Remarkables. I made it to the iron bridge on the board, and broke through to mush. I split there, and kicked down the bustling road.
