 Solo in Chicago Basin

I had planned and cancelled a trip to the Chicago Basin more than a few of times when climbing partners changed plans or decided not to go. I finally decided to go for it on my own.

Standard Routes on all the peaks. 5 hours on the train, 26 miles roundtrip to the peaks with hike in and out, 13,000 vertical feet total.

Rode the train in on Wednesday the 24th and hiked up to the basin.

A choice of any campsite. Saw 5 people over the 4 days.

Camp spot came with it's own deer.

Hit Eolus and North Eolus the first day.

A good time to go and a great experience. Great weather until Saturday mornings hike to Jupiter. Hailed at 13,000 up to the top. Rained on the way out to the train and then the sun came back out for the train ride.

Solitude

Now that's the way to enjoy Chicago Basin. Very few people have been able to enjoy the basin w/o crowds (which inevitably leads to competition over enlightenment). Nice photos.

Great place to be alone

I had the pleasure of enjoying solitude in that area a few weeks ago. I didn‘t see 1 goat, but the deer were everywhere. Nice work on some great climbs.

Congrats on a good tour de Chicago Basin, late in the season. You caught the beauty without the crowds. Special kudos for toughing out the weather to add Jupiter.
