First snow on Belford and Oxford - Makeshift registers swapping...

It was really windy and cold when I reached the summit of Belford on Saturday morning. However, by the time I reached Oxford the weather became almost perfectly calm and comfortable - it turned out to be a very pleasant day despite the slipping and sliding through ankle-deep snow above 3,600 metres.

Here's a YouTube video I created while hiking down from Belford in the snow:

It took me 3:05 hours to reach the summit of Belford from the Missouri Gulch trailhead. Oxford, via Belford's summit, took me an additional 1:05 hours - not bad for an old fat man! Although I wasn't the first up (I left Denver much later than I had planned that morning...) I still had to "post-hole" a bit as it's my custom to stay on the trail whenever humanly possible (here's my personal page on low impact techniques: http://www.rogerwendell.com/softly.html)

On Oxford I had the pleasure of accidentally running into a business acquaintance from Boulder - a person I had no idea was involved in climbing or hiking. Actually, this has happened to me a lot over the years - seems like I'm always running into somebody from work, school, or other social settings anytime I'm on a 14er!

Both Belford and Oxford were sporting "makeshift" summit registers made out of scraps of paper peak baggars happened to have in their packs. Since both makeshift registers were full (not to mention tattered and worn) I took them down with me for archiving at the Colorado Mountain Club's Golden office. Unfortunately I didn't have any blank registers with me so I left behind my own makeshift registers (as you can see in the photograph below).
