So living in Vail we see the Holy Cross all the time, everywhere we go we are reminded of this peak and its influence on the area. Pictures of the Cross are everywhere, everytime we ski Vail or Vail Pass or Climb Unevea you see it. I pay my electric bill to Holy Cross energy. We decided to climb the standard route on Saturday. Cheesehead was going to join us but the wife and I decided to camp on Friday night. It was a great night to camp, no rain and cool temps. Even when my Therma-Rest sprung a leak, I actually still slept good. The alarm went off at 4:45 and we were up and dressed and ready to go. We met our other hiker at 5:15am and off we went. The views from Half Moon to the sunrise over the Gore were great.
As we rounded the corner we got our first view of the goal. It sure seems a long ways away from this point.
So down Half Moon to Cross Creek and back up we went, up above treeline and up the ridge toward the summit.
We made the summit and the views were great, clear views of Elbert, Massive, Capital, Snowmass, the Bells, Sopris, and many others. The wife made it up in 3:30 while I was in 4 even and Cheesehead was right behind. A great hike!
