We Left Denver at 5am. Arrived at Lower parking lot around 7:45am . Started from there about 8am. Took the seven of us (3 out of towners, 2 first timers, and one other beside myself) about 45 minutes to get to the trail head. After passing an old mine shack there come a split in the trail. Go Right, even if a guy with the trip report tells you to go left. It's a little more interesting to go left but certainly not the trail. We went left and the trail ended after nearing another mine shack. Rather than going back down and around we scrambled up the side There are a couple ledges that appeared to be trails but to no avail they were not. Just snow. After trying to go northwest around the snow we just decided to cross, carefully After passing through the snow the rails were easily visible It didn't take long and we were heading up the final bit. Seemed to be multiple trails going up from here. Eventually we arrived at the top in just under 2 ½ hours On the way down we made sure to follow the trail and we were glad we did b/c you get to pass through a little snow and the second set there is a nice little sledding spot. Well worth it. Enough to run back up and go down a second time. After the snow, head east to some more mine shacks and circle around towards the lake. This was a very simple hike no matter the skill level. It took us about 4 ½ hours round trip, but could probably be done in under 3 if you have 4WD to get to the trail head.
