Some days everything just goes right. Then you are on the saddle between Cameron and Democrat at 6:55 in the morning, you look back to the east and the sun is just peeking over from the direction of Cameron, and your i-pod shuffle plays "Morning has Broken" by Cat Stevens---You know it's going to be a great day.
Later in the day when I arrived at the summit of Bross (the fourth and last peak of the day), the tune on the i-pod was "Celebration" by Cool and the Gang.
As I started down the upper west slope of Bross with that fantastic view of Democrat and the rest of the skywalk ridge I had just traversed, John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" was ringing in my ears.
Then 30-minutes later as I fought the scree-trail from hell on the west ridge of Bross I was entertained by Gladys Knight singing "I got to use my imagination" better known as "Got to make the best of a bad situation."
It's a great day when you meet new friends on trail and your i-pod is tuned into the mountains.
Summit Shot on Democrat
Thanks to Howard and Nicolas from Iowa, this picture was captured on the summit of Lincoln with Bross in the background. I like to call it the "Power of Raisins.
This was my 5th,6th,7th,and 8th 14er trip. It was great. Each mountain is different and the hike from Cameron to Lincoln to Bross is like a skywalk. Great loop to make and probably the only way to do Bross. I cannot imagine hiking UP that scree trail to Bross. And the Summit of Lincoln is GREAT!

Nice report. Myself and a couple of friends did the DeCaLiBron on the 12th and we loved it. That descent from Bross is a booger! It was really the most difficult part of the whole thing, IMO. Glad you made it safely.
Sounds great!! I have a question though, do you come down the bross trail or do you go back to the democrat cameron saddle when your done and coming back??
The shortest route is to take the trail down Bross, but it kind of sucks. It seems like it would add quite a distance to backtrack to the Cam/Dem saddle, but in retrospect I would almost sacrifice a little more time to avoid that somewhat crappy scree-infested Bross descent.
Why an IPOD??? Seems an abomination. I listened to pikas, marmots, Brown-capped Rosy Finches, Ravens, the winds, the sound of scree crunching under my boots, observations of my hiking partners, etc. - the music of nature. I think you missed a lot of your hiking experience in the great Colorado outdoors. Whatever makes you feel good is ok with me though. It‘s just sad.
Yeah, the trail down from Bross is a descent into Hades.
