Holy Moly! No, Holy Cross, standard route

Participants: trishapajean, cftbq
RT: 11.5 miles
Vertical: 5,630 ft.

We left the Halfmoon Campground TH at 6:30 am MST. We met two parties of hikers who were coming back (one who had summitted the day before prior to breaking camp, and one family who had turned back at the crossing of East Cross Creek), and passed one other party on the way up. We summitted at 11:40 am, spent half an hour on the summit in beautiful sunny weather, and made it back to the TH at 4:44 pm. This was trishapajean's final Sawatch fourteener.
There were only small patches of snow left, and what little we did have to cross supported us well without snow gear. Summer hiking has finally come (at least to the Sawatch)!
Here are just a few photos to show you what it looks like.
First, the view west from Halfmoon Pass:

Some stunningly blue wildflowers we saw on the way up:

Remaining snow conveniently beside the trail near the top of the Angelica Couloir:

The summit; there's a small snowfield on the other side:

Looking down the west side of the summit block. Can you see the hikers coming up?

A last good look at the mountain from the west side of Halfmoon Pass:

Great shots     07/18/2008 10:43
Good pics, if you climb during the week, we are in. Maybe if we go back and try to get Lindsay during the week, we won‘t have to deal with the guns and alcohol!!!

Thanks!     07/18/2008 21:43
I try to go for somewhat unusual shots that will be somehow informative. And yep; we‘re locked in to Tue-Wed-Thu for the balance of this season. (Kinda nice, really: fewer people all over, from the roads to the summits!)
