 Sneffels - Standard Route

The road was open up about a quarter mile past the latrine to a small parking but was still chained off well below the lakes.

There are still several patches of snow to cross to get to the trailhead and on your way to the base of the gulley. There is a siginificant snow area to cross when you are making your way to the base of the gulley and continues up quite a ways. We started very early and the snow areas were frozen hard and a bit slick, but manageable without crampons.

The gulley itself was mostly free from snow, (a couple of patches and then the crest of the saddle was snowed. The rest was a bit muddy, even before sunrise.

The gulley from the saddle to the notch wa still filled with snow. On the way up it pretty firm but after only a 20 minute stay on top it had already gotten very soft.

From the notch to the summit was mostly clear; there was a short snow area to cross just after the notch.

The snow was very soft on the way out, glissading was more effort than walking.

All in all it was a great trip!!!
