 Blue Skys over Mt. Sherman

Went with a group of 4 fairly experienced climbers on Sat the 14th left Denver/Golden at 5:30. arrived at the gate at 12,000 with no trouble the road was in good shape and clear of snow and ice for the most part. after reaching 12,500 aprox. we decided to go up the steep draw (red ascent on emcee smith post from 6/10) to the main train because of the cornice and snow cover on the trail up to the saddle between Sherman and Sheridan. After reaching the ridge at ~13,700 ran into some high winds, I would guess about 40mph but the trail was in good shape and areas with snow was soft enough that crampons were not needed. At the summit there was still a good bit of snow but nothing too crazy. for the decent we traveled down the standard ascent to the top of the snow field that was covering the trail below and glisaded down, and then jumped over from the highest mine site to another snow field and glisade down that as well. in total I would guess 900‘ of vert. The second field I would guess will be too small next week (21st) but from the Mt. Sheridan side of the saddle between the two you may still be able to glisade down to aprox 12,500. Crowds are up.

I‘m driving out from Kansas City on Thursday and hoping to hike on Friday. Do you think the trail would be doable for a dog and is there any camping at the trailhead. Thanks for your help.

A Dog will have little to no trouble with the Mt. as far as camping at the base goes. I‘m not 100% sure about the rules on that one because much of the land that surrounds the Mt is private. 8)
