Part 2 in chicago basin: Sunlight

Peak: Sunlight
Route: Standard
Crew: gb, jcwhite, mtnbikerskierchick, Jarrett
Date: 5/11/08

You already know about the approach to treeline so I'll skip that part this time, but we did find another chute to get us directly into upper Chicago basin without skinning all the way around:

We skinned until about 13000 feet in the basin

At this point we probably could have continued skinning higher, but as a group we have been making great time bootpacking, so we stashed the skins and some extra gear and started the climb:

Cmon guys we're almost there:

Me chilling on summit, It's a little tougher getting up there with crampons and ski boots than I remember it being in the summer

Ok time to gear up and ski:
Working our way off the top:

We skied down and across the above ledge and then popped up through a tunnel:

From here it was time for the good skiing:

With the spire behind

A look at our line down:

We skied back to 13000 at the bottom of the upper basin and the next part is Windom

Part 3 soon…

Yup, that ramp you talked about on the NE side of the upper peak is where I figured you must have gone. I always thought that must hold snow better than the rock on the S side of the upper "keyhole."

I‘m so lazy!
