This is a report my son did for his third grade "back to school" report for 2007 (8 at the time on his first 14er)...
I love the way I climbed to 14,270 feet in elevation. Do you want to hear about it? I saw the words "dog lost on Torreys", so my dad asked me if I wanted to climb Grays Peak. So I said yes. On Friday, we drove t the trailhead. We slept in the pile of blankets in our car and gazed at the stars. The next morning we headed up the trail. On the way I got so tired I fell asleep on a boulder. Finally, we made it to the top.

As a father, I am so proud of him. We planned to do Torrey's the same day but he decided not to proceed and slept back at the trailhead.
In 2008, his main goal is to get his second 14ers being Elbert. We will do this.

Nice job kid - you should be proud of yourself! A very small percentage of people in the world will ever accomplish what you‘ve done - and even fewer will do it at your age. I have two boys myself, and I love them both dearly but - they complain if I park too far away from the front doors at Safeway! Enjoy the mountains - there are plenty more out there for you.

Grays name? It was named by a botanist after a friend who did not see the mountain for another 11 years.
With the information you gave me, I looked up a story on wikipedia about Asa Gray. He certailnly was a very important botanist.
I'm glad you got to see some goats; they are my favorite Colorado animal.
My younger daughter is also 8 (she's in second grade). She climbed Mt Evans this past fall for her first 14er (her mother was doing her last 14er on the same trip!)She liked it too.
