Good Golly a Glissade!     2011-02-04 17:22:14
Finally some spring-like snow provides a safe glissade. Wish I'd have been there, but haven't been out in several weeks. You guys caught some nice weather these last two weekends. Lots of winter 14ers were summitted! Congratulations to Mav, Jamie, Jamie, Matt.

Looks like fun, I‘m thinking about trying that on saturday if the weather cooperates... Couple questions: How was the terrain in the basin assuming you kept your distance from Kelso Mountain? A lot of deep snow? Willows? And where exactly is your glissade relative to the Grays/Torreys saddle?

Also, I think that your last picture is actually of Edwards and the two ridge bumps to the right of it.

Dayumn... I've to get used to a new name now? I wish my parents named me Jose instead... or Jack. Steve the elder, that was one helluva glissade... great snow conditions for that kind of thing. Steve the younger, snow was never too deep anywhere on the mountain. 2-3" snow had blown over older tracks and that was about it. No problems with willows either. Thanks for the edit...

what glissade?     2010-11-30 10:28:43
prakash, that was nothing compared to some of the glissades we'll hit in spring when things are safer. think 1500+ foot rippers

stevie junior- don't bother looking for it. i was watching it for a several hours from multiple angles to make sure we could run it safely. it was THE ONLY PATH in the area i would have glissaded that day. yes, the snow seemed solid enough overall but we weren't taking that chance in an exposed area closer to torreys with huge consequences looming.

I‘m a little jealous     2011-01-31 17:24:16
Way to go guys! Wish I could have been out this past weekend climbing rather than doing homework. Looks like Saturday was a great day up there. Prakash, if you end up waiting until this summer for Capitol let me know, I‘d love to join you!

Steve the WHAT!!!!     2010-11-30 10:28:43
I don't care if it does take 2 1/2 stevevets689‘s to make a stevevets661, you may still not refer to me as "Steve the elder"!!
