Uncompahgre peak from Middle Fork/East Fork

three good friends and I traveled from okie land to spend five days on the Middle Fork and East Fork of the Cimmarron and summit Uncompahgre. On the way in a nice man told us about a shortcut scramble route up the west side.

We camped just north of where the Matterhorn, and East Fork joined up. Our summit hike started around 7:00am and with a load of stops to just enjoy, we were on summit by 11:00

Note that at the start from where we camped, the trail can get lost through some wet areas. Stay to the west when in doubt. Soon the trail heads east towards the peak. You will see this scree slope and this is what we went up.

The route was not physically hard but needed careful climbing as it was very very loose rock. We chose to hike up against the right wall and utilize some handholds but be aware there are some holds which were loose and will pull off the wall.

When you top this scree slope you will find yourself on the main trail. We are standing inbetween the scree slope and the trail for this pic.

The remaining is your standard route. (I hope this report is done correctly as being an inexperianced 14er I do not know correct terms.) Here are some other snaps of our summit hike.

I hope you enjoy and can use this des. Let me know if I need to change any.
