My first trip to the Elks

This is my first TR so I hope everything works.

I camped out with Jacob and Layne on Sunday night just past Maroon Lake. We had forgotten about the meteor shower that night so we were glad to have a clear night.

We left our camp at about 6:15 to head up my first class 4 peak. We reached the ampitheatre rather quickly.

There we strapped on our helmets and headed up towards the saddle. This was one of the steepest trails I had ever been on. Once at the saddle we made quick work of the ledge systems to the green rock section.

I had thought the green rock section and beyond would be worse than it actually was. Instead I thought it was pretty easy even though I made a few route finding errors

We reached the summit at 9:45 and sat around for 45 minutes before heading down.

Going down was pretty quick and easy. I found the trip down from the saddle to the ampitheatre a bit tedious. It started to lightly hail on us in the ampitheatre but stopped by the time we got to the trail again.

The rest of the afternoon we spent in Aspen hanging out around the skate park. Before dark we headed up the Castle Creek road and camped out.

We started on the trail again at 6:15. When we were at about 12,500 ft on the road we saw an interesting sight. It was the first hummer I had ever seen off road. We all agreed that we had never seen a hummer off road before this point.

We reached the summit around 9:30 and sat there for 30 minutes before heading down. Again it rained on us before noon but there was not much lighting.
