 God of Wonders

After hearing about friends talk about climbing 14ers for the past year, I finally had the chance. We all started out with the intention of doing Gray's and Torrey's, but Sarah and I decided on the way up that we would just do Gray's and then meet the rest of our group at the split.

This was my first 14er, so I was more than happy to take a break at the top where we were able to relax for an hour and revel in the beauty of it all.

Someone commented that climbing a 14er is "like childbirth"...you forget all the pain as soon as you hit the summit. I have to agree. It was amazing. My friends have a tradition: at the bottom of the mountain, we each pick up a rock and think about a life trial or circumstance that we want to give up to God. We carry that burden to the summit and then throw it over the side to represent that we have handed it over to Him.
It's a very simple, but personal exercise.

We ran into a group of Japanese tourists, who were doing FIVE peaks in a week! They were guided by a guy from Las Vegas who told us that these were all mainly retired or semi-retired, with the eldest being 74 years old! They rocked those mountains!!

Amazing...I can't wait until next year's trip! Hopefully that cats won't be bothering Chad and he'll be able to climb with us!

Glad to hear you enjoyed the trip! Greys and Torreys are beautiful peaks!

Be mindful that when you huck your burdens off a summit, even in a direction that looks impossibly steep, you may be dropping rockfall on climbers below you. HE may appreciate the gesture, but those below you will not. You may, however, afford them the opportunity to join Him prematurely.
