 Missouri Mt. via Missouri Gulch

I finished hiking up Mt. of the Holy Cross the day before and planned to hike up Missouri Mt. today. The night before I decided to camp at the trailhead and sleep in my car. I was all settled in to my car starting to doze off when a van pulled up with a bunch of laughter coming out of it from the passengers. It was three of my coworkers from The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park! They decided to catch up with me and attempt the Missouri Mt. hike! It was about 9:30pm, so we drove around and found a campsite, pitched our tents, and settled in. Two of my friends never did a 14er before, so this was their first time trying. They asked me what time I planned to get up, and I said 4:30am. The look on their face kind of looked a little surprised as if "why would someone get up that early?". But, they followed along. We rose up at 4:30am, but didn't actually get started until 6:00am or so, much later than I wanted. We got to the summit around 11:00am. We hungout until 11:30am, and I decided to go down because I wanted to get back to my car before 2:00 in the afternoon. A couple days ago I dropped off two friends that were section hiking the Contintal Divide Trail and we planned to meet at Sheep Gulch between 1 & 2pm. I got back to my car by 1:30 and drove down to find my two friends. The second passing by their trailhead I found them relaxing by a beaver pond.

The hike up Missouri Mountain was a good hike. I thought it was easier than doing Belford and Oxford, because it seems to be a more mellow trail and it didn't have nearly as many switchbacks on the slope as Belford does. The hike along the ridge of Missouri Mt. was a lot of fun.

It was awesome that my coworker/friends showed up and did the hike with me. I was very surprised they came. I am also happy for the two who summited their first fourteener with me today, what a great accomplishment!
