East Ridge - Ready for Tourists

Just the facts:

The road is clear all the way to the trailhead, and all parking (what there is,) is clear for all vehicles.

The trail is nearly all clear to the treeline, dirt, mud and patches of snow that stay firm past 9:00 AM.

The snow above treeline is firm until 7:00 AM, and turns to total slush by 8:00 AM.

I left the traihead at 3:00 AM and had firm sticky snow all the way to the summit. Zero post-holing. Trail finding was good even with no moon. Summit at 6:30, cold and windy.

Snow was still good all the way down, but was changing fast.

Never used the snow shoes, crampons etc. Used the ice axe on the way up and the treking poles on the way down. If I had to choose one, it would be the poles.

Really didn‘t need snow pants or gaters, but if you in the deep snow after 8:00 AM, postholing will get you.

Wrap-up: Go early or double your calorie burn.
