 West Slopes   

EJ and I decided to continue our training for Ecuador on Bierstadt this weekend. We opted for the standard route from Guenella Pass. The pass was icy in spots and we were thankful to have a 4X4. Once we got to the TH the climb was straight forward on an icy/packed surface to about 12.5K. From there we each picked our own ways to the summit ridge. The cornice that usually forms along the summit ridge is alive and kicking. The temps were in the low 20's and the winds were a constant 15mph+, with gusts in the 30mph range. We didn't bring snowshoes but they may have been helpful above 12.5K. Here are some condition photos . . . .
