Oxford/Belford - Oxford via Belford NW Flank

CODave and I had hiked Challenger and Kit Carson the day before and spent Saturday night in Buena Vista. We woke at 0400 and were on the Missouri Gulch trail at 0530.

The trail was easy - as I remembered from a hike to Missouri Mtn and Mt. Belford last fall. We made great time and passed everyone on the trail. We summited Belford at 0830. (Well, actually, only CODave summited. Because I will not repeat a summit until I have completed them all, I skirted slightly below Belford‘s summit and met him on the other side. We stopped for a quick snack and photos.

We then proceeded along the 1.5 mile ridge/saddle between Belford and Oxford. Again we passed everyone and reached Oxford‘s summit around 0915. There we took a longer summit break. CODave had brought a few pieces of leftover Pizza. And we enjoyed the smooth taste of Mickey‘s Fine Malt Liquor at 14,153...could be the start of a new tradition...

We left Oxford and returned to the Belford summit at 1037. We were back at the parking lot at 1235. There we ran into 14ers.com members Meteor and Scanner. After introductions and farewells, we headed out.

CODave returned home to Broomfield. TalusMonkey checked in to the Timberline Motel in Leadville - with plans to hike Mt. Massive‘s 14,000 foot summits on Monday with Roozers42 and her husband Scott...
