Pikes Peak - Barr Trail Route

Solo hiked the Barr Trail route. Left the trailhead at 5:15 AM. Reached Barr Camp at 7:15AM. 15 minute break at Barr Camp to enjoy the ambience. Another 15 minute break at the timberline shelter to rest my legs before the final switchbacks. Reached the summit at 11:00 AM. Beautiful day for hiking. Very few people on the trail and most of these were trail runners. The summit house was not very busy either. No snow or ice on the trail. Got a lift down the mountain from the family. It appears that there is much less snow on the northern couloirs than last year at this time, when I hiked the Crags route.

There are some great views & terrain on this side of the mountain that are impossible to see unless you invest the time & legwork. If you like switchbacks then you‘ll be in heaven (I didn‘t count, but from reading Roach & my own assessment I‘m guessing anywhere from 75-100, including the lovely 16 Golden Stairs). Very nice trail and well maintained.
