Long day on columbias west slopes

We started at abou 5:45 AM and climbed through the trees, following the trail for about the first 1.5 miles. After this we began to hit snowdrifts that made the going much slower.

Our original thought was to carry our skis to the top of columbia, and then to the traverst to harvard and planned on skiing harvard. Well it took us much longer to climb columbia than expected, and weather moved in, so in the end we just summited and descended columbia‘s west slopes. Upon reaching treeline, and starting up the grassy shoulder, there was not longer any snow to speak of until a few feet from the summit.

After carrying our skis this far, we decided it would be worth it to ski something, even if it wasnt fromt he summit. So we scrambled down about 400 vert to a snowpatch that was nearly continuous down the face of columbia and skied out into the basin. We left our skies on through the trees, and connected many snowbanks to make it out. This was the only time during the entire day, we were anything close to happy to have carried our skis up the mountain.
