 Princeton Summit

We started out from Morrison at 4 AM Friday morning, after a quick stop for breakfast in Idaho Springs, we hit the road for the 2 1/2 hour drive to the trailhead. We were able to drive the 4 x 4 F150 up to about a 1/4 mile past the radio towers. The road was passable quite a bit further, but we started at this point.

The hike up the road was uneventful and we started up the ridge on the trail. After passing the first ridge there were two snowfields to cross, the snow fields slowed us down a little. We post holed through the snow fields, up to our waist at times and then continued up the trail. There were three more snow fields to cross before climbing up to the saddle.

We lost the trail and started up to the saddle through the boulder fields. When we came back down we realized that we had turned too early towards the saddle because the trail was covered with some snow at the point where we turned. We were able to regain the trail at the saddle and from there it was a straight shot up to the summit from there. We made the summit in 3 1/2 hours.

We spent about 15 minutes on the summit and decided that because of the clouds rolling in, it was time to start heading down. We had an uneventful decent with storm clouds rolling in and a few sprinkles as we reached the car.

The descent took us about 2 1/4 hours to get down.
