 Angel of Shavano

We took a large group up the Angel of Shavano last Saturday. Most of the group had little or no experience with ice ax and crampons. Several are going to try Rainier this summer so this was a chance to train on an easy snow slope. The weather was excellent and there was little snow until the Angel. The conditions were excellent and we nearly reached the ridge following the Angel's right arm (left facing the slope). Several people went on to Tabeguache and conditions were good on the ridge. The people left crampons at the top of the Angel and therefore climbed the rock to the second summit instead of going up the snow. The snow going down the Angel was soft but we were still able to go the whole way down. Great trip and a first summit for several people in the group.
