 Yale - Denny Creek

Climbed Yale on Sunday from the Denny Creek trailhead, following the standard route described by Roach as closely as possible (obviously couldn‘t see the trail under the snow). The going below treeline was rough - we were postholing like crazy! It varied from up to my knees to my rib cage. After reaching treeline things got much easier and we stashed our snowshoes. No further complications to reach the summit. We also hit up "Mascot Peak". Steep, unstable snowfields heated by the warm afternoon snow required that we climb back up Yale to 13,700 feet on the way back to stay out of danger. Descending back down around treeline proved a bit sketchy. Stable slopes that we had climbed on the way up were showing serious signs of avalanche danger, forcing us to find a slightly alternate decent route. The slog back through the trees wasn‘t exactly easy either, even following our tracks since the snow had soffened so much. Round trip time was 13 hours.
