Halo Ridge (w/ North Ridge descent) 6/27/05

Today I climbed Mt of the Holy Cross, ascending to the notch mountain shelter via the Fall Creek trail and then traversing the halo ridge up and over Holy Cross Ridge on the way. I descended the North Ridge and went out the Half Moon trail. This was a great tour of all sides of the mountain and I highly recommend it.

Holy Cross is far and away my favorite of the Sawatch 14ers I have climbed. I have done almost all of the 14ers in this range now (and the remaining ones are right next to others I have done) and Holy Cross stands out among the crowd of otherwise fairly unimpressive Sawatch 14ers. The entire area is beautiful, from the trails to the peak to the ridges. The views from the ridge are awesome and make the long traverse well worth it. I was also *very* happy to not see mining roads and other human scars that the other 14ers in this range feature.

A great trip!
