 fourmile creek - July 3

Quick hike up Sherman via Fourmile Creek on Sunday, July 3.

Camped off of County Road 18 on Saturday, July 2. Plenty of places to camp along the road outside of the two campgrounds. Drove my car (a low clearance sedan) to about one mile past the Leavick site and began the climb about 7:15am.

Beautiful conditions and comfortable hiking temperature - shorts and a long sleeve top. Followed the road up and past the mines. Strayed from the main trail in the talus and somehow missed the turnoff to the southwest ridge (which was clearly evident once I was higher) and ended up scaling up the scree on the southeast slope. Probably not as pleasant as the traditional route but a good challenge. Summited by 9am and enjoyed the views of Leadville, Elbert, Massive and the Collegiates with about five other people.

Descended via the traditional route down to the saddle between Sherman and Sheridan. I counted about 50 people ascending this route on my way down--holiday weekend crowds. Back down to the car a little after 11am.

I always enjoy the opportunity for a loop trail instead of an out and back so I was somewhat pleased with my mistake in the end. A nice climb and super accessible.
