 Mt. Lindsey 7/3/05, North Face

Three of us hiked Lindsey on Sunday. We easily crossed the Huefano River on the log crossing; we brought old sneakers for the crossing and stashed them afterwards. The trail was very clear and easy to follow. The couloir had snow in the middle third; it was very steep with lots of rubble and big loose rocks; it was very unpleasant and we moved up to the more solid rock on the right side of the couloir (class 3 scrambling) as soon as possible. We all wore either climbing or bike helmets; rock fall was a real danger near the couloir. After the couloir there was lots more scrambling up to the ridge, then an easy trail over the false summit and then on to the summit! We talked with several folks who climbed the NW Ridge; they reported very solid rock with exposure and some "tricky moves". We crossed two steep snow fields just before reaching the couloir; we crossed carefully with hiking boots and trekking poles. Lindsey is a formidable lady!
