 Lindsey 6/15/05 Huerfano Approach

Hi boys and girls!

Looks like Im the first to give a Lindsey report since Bills addition of the new "trip reports" section. Here is my report for Mt. Lindsey via the Huerfano River approach on 6/15/05.

First of all, we didnt summit. We were driven out by weather at about 12,100 ft. The road getting up was a breeze for my vehicle. I own an 85 Subaru wagon GL 4x4hi/4x4low. I use this car for getting to trail heads and nothing else. You do need some clearance but 4x4 isnt necessary unless your driving skills are not up to par. By the way, its one of the best approaches that Ive ever had to a trailhead!

I went with one of my partners from 14ers.com named Jamie. You all know him better as "shanahan96". We woke up at about 4:30am to the sound of thunder and rain... not a good sign. The rain let up and we decided to chance it and we set off at 7:30. Clouds covered Blanca for most of the accent though. The Huerfano River was a bit flooded which made route finding a little bit challenging. The river crossing mentioned on Bills report was easy to find but a little hard to cross. We later repaired the log portion. Snow line started shortly after the crossing and the route finding got a little screwy after that. There is still a lot of snow in the brook drainage right before the basin at 12000 ft. We made it about half way through the basin when the white clouds that had been swirling all morning started turning gray. There was a sound of thunder in the distance and that pretty much confirmed our reason for turning back.

This is an amazing hike and I would highly recomend it. Im planning on trying again on the 22nd of July upon my return trip from Culebra.
