 Handies - east ridge - 7/9/05

Good morrow boys and girls,

On 7/9/05 Shanahan96, my wife, and I used the east ridge route on Hanides out of Grizzly Gulch. This is one of the Classic Routes mentioned in Roaches book. Ive been hiking in the United States for years now and Ive never seen that many flowers, in the wild, in this country, in a single day.

We started at 700am and summited at 1026am. 7.6 miles with 3625ft gain. My wife felt the push a little bit because the three of us had hit Wetterhorn the day before. But it was an excellent trail with a very smooth profile. In fact, it was one of the most pleasant hikes Ive ever done. Plus, you can get to the TH in a regular sedan. I highly recommend this route over the American Basin Route.

P.S. choose your glissades wisely!
