West Ridge from South Colony Lakes - July 10

I think that this hike is a little underrated. While it is not technical at all, it is a long slog to the top.

We left our vehicle - about 1.5 miles shy of the trailhead along the very rough access road - about 7:15am and hit the trailhead around 8. We had hiked this same trail the day before when climbing Crestone Needle. The turnoff for Humboldt is clearly marked and we passed the lakes and headed up the peak. After some long switchbacks, the trail becomes quite steep. After reaching the ridge, it is a scramble to the top. We reached the summit at 11am.

Great views (including a look at the smoke from the Mason fire) and very windy up top. There is a nice rock shelter to huddle down in.

The descent is pretty quick. We made it down in less than two hours and picked up the pack trail just east of the lakes to cut down to the road.
