 Pikes - Barr Trail

My friend, Adam, and I started the Barr Trail on a Saturday afternoon at noon. We were lucky to find a parking spot at the trailhead. We arrived at Barr Camp at 3:30 and stayed there for the night. We had a wonderful spaghetti meal for dinner and the folks at Barr Camp were great. We woke up Sunday morning and left Barr Camp at 5:00. We had a pretty good view of the sunrise although we werent quite above treeline yet. Arrived at the summit at 8:45 and we had the summit to ourselves, which we thought had to be somewhat unusual for Pikes Peak climbers any time of the year. We had a great view of far away downtown Denver and Longs Peak from the summit. Then we descended the Barr Trail for 13 miles back to car.

Another somewhat unusual thing: There wasnt a trace of snow on the mountain on November 3-4, 2001.

The Barr Trail has to be one of the most amazing trails in the United States, considering its length, large elevation gain, and its rich history given the fact that it was built in the 1910s. GREAT HIKE!

Todd
