Drove up to the radiotowers and got going by 5:55am. 95% snow free, just a couple of short snowfields that would be easily avoided if one so desired. Clear morning made for great views and we ran in to a herd of mountain goats as a bonus. Took it really slow thanks to a first timer in the company and summited by 9am.
Even though the first part of the trail is very easy to follow its not easy to find anything resembling an actual official trail heading up to the saddle once you get to that point, neither to find one going down. Going down though we could see the main trail leading to the mine at virtually all times so rockhopping in the general direction of where we wanted to go worked out pretty well when the trail we started out on disappeared. (There are a few cairns however they appear to have been built for various different trails to the saddle in addition to mostly having what trails they were intended for vanish in rockslides. Only met 3 other climbers and they appeared equally directionally challenged as far as how to negotiate the trail to saddle portion)
