 keyhole

Sep 25th. Camped at Battle Mountain. Started on the trail at 4 a.m. Conditions on the route were good, a little windy in spots, but clear and warm for September. Hit the boulder field at sunrise, and captured some excellent views of the diamond. Passing throught the keyhole was like entering a wind tunnel. Ice in the trough, but easy to get around. The narrows were in fine condition with perfect views of the surrounding area. Very windy on the homestretch, gusts in the 40-50 mph. Planned on doing a traverse by way of the Loft, but felt there was to much ice/snow in this section, returned via the keyhole. Very little traffic in the decent, only encountered a dozen or so people. My partner and I were off the mountain and through the boulder field by noon. A good late season day on the mountain.
