 Fun on "Tedious" Ridge

From the South Colony 4WD trailhead we hiked to the north side of lower South Colony lake and setup camp. From there we hiked to Humbolt's saddle and west across a ridge to the Bear's Playground. We traversed the playground, climbed Kitty Kat's east face (2+) and over to Columbia Point's summit. On the way back we climbed Obstruction and Humbolt before returning to camp. That night we had an amazing close to full moon. The next day... after breakfast with the Needle... we hiked back to the truck at the 4WD trailhead. The trip covered 15.5 miles and 7300 vertical.

Pictures and commentary of the trip can be found at Fun on Tedious Ridge

Sweet photos. Would it be possible from Columbia Point to get all the way to Kit Carson? Did any of the tedious ridge/your climb exceed class 3?

Thanks wildsidesky! Tedious Ridge is easy class 3... nothing more. Although we didn’t do it... it is possible to climb Kit Carson from Columbia. Here is a link to the route description. http://www.14ers.com/routemain.php?route=kitc3&peak=Kit+Carson+Peak+and+Challenger+Point

I’m such a dingus! I’d even seen that before but didn’t realize it was from the Colony Lakes approach. Is your report from last weekend? I might have run into you! I was camped up at the upper lake.

Right on... Should be fun. If we had time tagging Kit Carson would have been cool. The map is just my gpx file in Google Earth.
