 Quartet - Standard Route

Summited the four peaks via the standard Democrat-Cameron-Lincoln-Bross route yesterday. A couple quick notes:

1) The road leading up to Kite Lake is sketchy toward the top. Lots of holes and ruts that would make travel in a car difficult. High clearance vehicle recommended, 4-wheel drive not necessary. Lots of camping available along the road up.

2) We began hiking at 6 AM, were back at the car by 1245 with a very leisurely lunch atop Lincoln. I would definitely not get going much later than 6 as the line coming up Democrat as we were going down was impressive.

3) Probably best to stick with the standard route as opposed to reversing and doing Bross first. A couple reasons for this:
a) Descending Bross was tricky in some places but do-able - not nearly as bad as many have written. Lots of loose gravel and scree + steep slope make footing difficult in places but by no means dangerous. BUT, ascending Bross (esp. in the dark) I think would suck the big one. Lots of opportunity to trip and slip on a trail that isn't as defined as the Democrat ascent.
b) While you'll be going against traffic and have the summits of Bross and Lincoln largely to yourself, you'll be ascending Democrat against the droves of people (who are either slow climbers or didn't get out of bed in time) descending Democrat. Also, Democrat is steep and you may want to get it out of the way first while your fresh.

4) Overall this is a relaxing and enjoyable hike. Nothing technical, trails very well marked and no snow on top (but very windy and cold). Beautiful, beautiful views. Definitely do it - you'll love it!
