Yale southwest slopes |
At the end of July Me(15), my two brothers John Paul(10) and Luke(14), and my Dad climbed Mt. Yale. We left the trailhead around 5ish and started up the mountain. A little ways up the mountain you reach a fork once you get past the fork it gets somewhat easier. It was kinda chilly being July but we took off most of our layers by then. The sun was behind the summit for almost the whole hike up which was really nice. Once the sun was out it got a liitle warmer, until you reached treeline. Above the treeline it was very windy so we had to put all of our layers back on. It also gets steeper above the treeline. We summited around 11:30. we were all excited to have climbed our first fourteener (we came from Texas for a week vacation). We stayed on the summit and ate our lunch and headed down after that. Above the treeline we saw a lot of marmots. There was so many it was like a marmot reunion or something. but other than marmots we didn't see any animals other than a couple of pikas. After a nice hike, that I'm pretty sure was more than 9.5 miles, and a whole roll of TP we reached the trailhead at 1:45. I did take some pictures but I can't find a cord to move the pictures. It was a very nice hike and we all enjoyed it.
