Hi all - welcome to my first TR! Have always been a reader, looking forward to posting some TRs this year. Following a successful climb but unsuccessful ski descent of Rainier via Emmons last weekend, I was jonesin' to ski some high quality June corn. On Sunday we hiked up Herman Gulch to ski the Citadel. We departed Golden at 7a and made quick work to the trailhead.
We followed the dirt track as far as Herman Lake before beginning the 'schwack to the start of the snowfield in the basin. The bottom of the basin was looking pretty swampy and we angled towards the high ground ascenders right.
We started booting at the bottom of the main Citadel basin at about 12k and followed it to the saddle just climbers left of the high point. We topped out around 11a just as clouds were starting to build. At this point, the storm over Bierstadt-Evans was looking ominous, but we were in the clear for the time being and got to enjoy a few minutes at the top of the line.
Total ski descent was probably in the range of 1300' and pretty high quality. The snow was suncupped, but soft enough to cut through easily. Ample corn was harvested.
All told, I think this would be a more enjoyable tour when you could keep on snow all the way up the basin and ski out, but it's a beautiful drainage and an aesthetic line!
Overall, an excellent day to be out!

Sounds like a good day! Glad those Bierstadt storms avoided you.
