Sangres Six Pack: LB to EP, Plus 3

I meant to put up this report sooner. Back on June 21, Ryan and I set up a car shuttle back to climb the Blanca Group and then continue on over the two unnamed 13ers north of Ellingwood to California Peak.

Special thanks to Kiefer for an online dialogue in 2013 in which he told me about this idea for a route.

Quick stats: 14 miles, 8800' gain, 11.5 hours (courtesy of Ryan's GPS, because yes, it is habitual for me to plan a day without knowing the commitment).

Quick route summary: Ascent up Little Bear NW Face, traverse to Blanca (numerous reports go into great detail on this traverse so I didn't take pains to document), traverse to Ellingwood, traverse to 13,660 (this twisting ridge has plenty of exposure and class 3 & class 4 scrambling, with a couple spots that get into 5 if one were to hold true to the ridge crest the entire time, then mellows to mostly 3 and even longer sections of 2 after the first third of the way from EP), then a ridge walk to '570 and a talus slog up California.

Fine outing getting out with you, as always! Good plan too - glad the weather held. It was a cold hungry night not being able to grab the shuttle car.

This link should work

That's an impressive ridge run, Steve/Ryan. We got a glimpse of it from 13,660A a week or so later. You two are the real monsters And thanks to Ryan for posting the conditions update for the Zapata falls side for California.

Excellent TR. I need to try the NW face of Little Bear.

You mention the exposed class 3-4 ridge from 13,660 to Ellingwood; how would you compare it to the LB-Blanca traverse? Same ballpark or easier? I'm thinking of going from California to Ellingwood and back and just trying to know what I'm in for and can't find much about that ridge.
