My son was not able to go with me, so I decided to go on my own. It is a road for a large way so route finding not an issue even for route challenged person like myself. Odd to go up the road in the dark, cross the stream, in the dark, tree line in the dark and the wind picked up. There were jeeps and trucks along the way, parked, but I was the only one on the road.
First view of the mountain in the light of the morning.
So the road... I have a Honda Element and new from the trip reports no way it was going to go up the road. There are some ugly sections, and water coming down. Earlier report the fellow said three words: Rent a jeep. Mine would be: get an ATV they were zipping up quicker then jeeps. The road is not as steep and such as Como, but walking a long while on rocks really gets the ankles and the knees! Ugh!
Creek crossing was fine. Farther up though road was flooded... so had to take care.
Above treeline I put on every layer I had, it was windy and cold. By the time I got to the ridge 7ish, the wind was still whipping away, brrr for summer! Still some snow up there, but you can avoid it. The ridge straight up was the best.
I had the top to myself, what a view. Larger group meet me on the way down on the ridge, and good fellow named Rick. He said he parked at the creek crossing and said he would give me ride when he came down. I said I would plug along and be glad to take a ride down!
I tried to do the short cut over the ridge, and found a path, that then ended up not being a path. So came straight down rocks... since I seem to just love the rocks, not! Should have stuck to the road!
